I have just discovered a fantastic opportunity for art lovers in Venice! The Doges’ Palace has an exhibit of the paintings of Edouard Manet that will be on while we are visiting the city with Imagining Venice. I have linked a blog to our blogroll that shows Manet’s painting Olympia¬†side-by-side with the inspiration for the painting: Titian’s Venus of Urbino.¬†Normally, the Venus painting hangs in the Uffizi in Florence. Of course, we will be visiting the Uffizi and one of the primary reasons for the Uffizi is to see Titian paintings as he is the epitome of the Venetian Renaissance. Remember to read Nicole’s blog on Titian before going to see the paintings. So now, we will see the Venus painting next to the controversial Manet for an opportunity to compare the two in person. This is an art historian’s treat. I can’t wait!
